Adaptive clothing sizing guide

Finding the perfect fit for your adaptive clothing should be effortless. At Vilbers.com, we understand the unique needs of our customers, especially those seeking comfortable and functional wheelchair adaptive trousers and other adaptive clothing. This guide will help you confidently select the right size, whether you're a paraplegic or quadriplegic individual, or simply looking for inclusive fashion.

How to choose your pants by body measurements

We've designed our sizing charts around body measurements to ensure the best possible fit for our adaptive trousers. To find your ideal size, you'll need to measure your:

  1. Waist: Measure around your natural waistline, typically the narrowest part of your torso.
  2. Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, keeping the measuring tape parallel to the floor.
  3. Thighs: Measure around the fullest part of one thigh.

Important note on waist adjustment: Our adaptive trousers feature an adjustable waist. This means that if the size fits your hips and thighs comfortably, the waist measurement can fluctuate by approximately 20% and still provide a great fit.

Measuring from a seated or lying position

We know that standing to take measurements isn't always possible. You can comfortably and accurately measure yourself while lying down or sitting in your wheelchair. Just follow these simple steps:

  • For Waist: If you're seated, lean slightly to the side to expose your natural waistline. If lying down, simply locate your natural waist. Measure around this area.
  • For Hips: While seated or lying down, ensure the tape measure goes around the fullest part of your hips and bottom. Try to keep the tape measure as level as possible.
  • For Thighs: While seated or lying down, measure around the fullest part of one thigh. Make sure the leg is relaxed.

Don't have a measuring tape? No problem!

You can still accurately measure yourself using a simple household item:

  1. Grab a ribbon, rope, or even a piece of string.
  2. Wrap it comfortably around the area you need to measure (waist, hips, or thigh) while seated or lying down.
  3. Mark the point where the ribbon overlaps.
  4. Lay the ribbon flat and measure its length with a standard ruler.

Measure your favorite garment for a perfect match

For an even more precise fit, you can compare the measurements of your favorite well-fitting pants or shirt to the measurements of our garments. We provide detailed garment measurements for all our items. Simply:

  1. Lay your favorite item flat on a bed or flat surface.
  2. Measure the relevant dimensions (e.g., inseam, waist width, hip width for pants; chest width, sleeve length for shirts).
  3. Compare these measurements to the "Garment Measurements" provided on our product pages.

The choice no parent should have to make.

With most stroller footmuffs, parents of children who need their legs secured to the footrest face an impossible trade-off: either keep the legs safely strapped in place and cover them with an ordinary blanket that provides no real thermal protection, or use a proper footmuff and lose the fixation their child's orthopedic setup depends on.

Junior for Seating Systems solves this by wrapping around the stroller's own footrest instead of sitting on top of it. As far as we know, this is the only footmuff on the market designed this way.

How it works:

The cover wraps around the stroller frame and fully encloses the footrest inside it. This means your child's legs can stay secured to the footrest exactly as prescribed. Whether for spasticity management or any other orthopedic reason, while still being completely protected from wind and cold. No compromise between safety positioning and warmth.

Built for seating systems.

This version is designed specifically for children using custom-molded foam or moulded seating systems, which already provide insulation for the seat and back. Because of this, Junior for Seating Systems doesn't include the additional material under the bottom that our standard Junior model has, keeping the fit close to the molded seat without unnecessary bulk.

Key features:

  • Wraps around the stroller's own footrest - the defining feature that keeps orthopedic leg fixation intact while providing full thermal protection.
  • Works with or without leg fixation. If your child doesn't need their legs strapped to the footrest, the footmuff can simply rest on top of the footrest instead of wrapping around it — the anti-slip layer keeps it securely in place either way, and also protects against dirt if positioned underneath the footrest.
  • Full front and rear leg coverage, shaped to work with individually molded seating systems mounted on a Hoggi frame.
  • Compatible with Hoggi Bingo Evolution, Otto Bock Kimba, and similar special needs strollers.
  • Two-way front zipper for easy placement and removal without having to detach the cover from the frame.
  • Adjustable strap at the back keeps the footmuff from dragging on the ground.
  • Adjusts within its size as your child grows: cinch the straps for a shorter, snugger fit, or let them out and raise or lower the footrest for more room. Each footmuff is made for one specific stroller size; moving to a larger stroller size (for example, from a #1 to a #2 frame) requires the matching footmuff size.
  • Easy to fit, with no need to dismantle any part of the stroller.
  • Reflective element for visibility in low light.
  • Weatherproof, protecting against wind, rain, and snow.

Materials:

  • Outer shell: Oxford fabric, water-repellent
  • Insulation: 3M™ Thinsulate™ J250, waterproof, retains its warmth even in damp conditions
  • Inner lining: polar fleece
  • Underfoot: a neoprene layer to block cold rising up from the ground beneath the stroller, plus an anti-slip layer that keeps the footmuff securely in place whether it wraps around the footrest or simply rests on top of it, and helps protect against dirt when positioned underneath.

Sizing:

Available in sizes #1, #2, and #2XL, matching Hoggi's own sizing system. Each size is specific to the corresponding stroller frame size.

Colours:

Available in four colours: Graphite, Light Grey, Pink Melange, and Teal Melange.

Care:

Machine wash on a gentle cycle at up to 40°C, inside out. Do not tumble dry.

Excellent seamstress work and very sturdy fastening. I totally recommend this shop!
